Habari Mwanafunzi! Welcome to Our Shape Safari!
Hello, brilliant learner! Are you ready for an exciting adventure? Today, we are not going to the Mara to see lions, but we are going on a Shape Safari right where you are! Our world is filled with amazing shapes. Let's meet two superstar shapes that are everywhere: the Circle and the Square!
Image Suggestion: A vibrant and colourful illustration of a Kenyan child with a curious and happy expression, holding a magnifying glass. In the background, everyday objects like a matatu wheel, a window, a football, and a sufuria lid are highlighted with glowing outlines of circles and squares. The style should be playful and cartoonish.
Meet Mr. Circle: The Rolling Shape!
Mr. Circle is a very friendly shape. He is perfectly round and loves to roll around! Think about the delicious chapati your mama makes. That's a circle!
- He is completely round.
- He has no straight sides at all.
- He has zero (0) corners! He is smooth all the way around.
Here is what Mr. Circle looks like:

Akinyi's Chapati
Akinyi loves helping her grandmother in the kitchen. Today, they are making chapati. Her grandmother rolls the dough into a small ball and then flattens it. "Look, Akinyi!" she says. "It's a perfect, round circle! Just like the sun in the sky." Akinyi giggles as she sees circles everywhere – the chapati, the lid of the sufuria, and the top of the cup!
Can you think of other circles? How about the wheels on a bicycle boda-boda or a 20 shilling coin?
Meet Madam Square: The Steady Shape!
Next up is Madam Square. She is very neat and strong. She is not round and rolling; she likes to stand steady and straight. Think about the window in your classroom or at home.
- She has four (4) straight sides.
- All her four sides are the exact same length. They are all equal!
- She has four (4) corners, like the corners of a book.

Count the corners: One, Two, Three, Four! They are all sharp little points.
Image Suggestion: A bright, cheerful illustration of a Kenyan child looking out of a large, square window pane. Outside the window, you can see a green landscape with an acacia tree. The child is tracing the shape of the square on the glass with their finger. On a small table nearby, there's a square box of biscuits.
Let's Play a Game: The Shape Hunt!
Now it's your turn to be a Shape Detective! Look around you right now. In your house or in the classroom.
- Can you find THREE things that are a CIRCLE? (Maybe a clock, a plate, or a button?)
- Can you find THREE things that are a SQUARE? (Maybe a tile on the floor, a picture frame, or a small box?)
Point to them and say their name out loud: "That is a circle!" or "That is a square!" Well done!

You did an amazing job on our Shape Safari today! You are now an expert at spotting circles and squares.
