Habari Mwanafunzi! Who Are You?
Hello there, brilliant student! Today, we are going on a very exciting journey to learn about the most important person in the world. Do you know who that is? It's YOU! You are special, unique, and wonderful. Let's learn all about 'Myself'.
My Name is Special
Your name is the first special thing about you! It's like a beautiful song that belongs only to you. Most of us in Kenya have more than one name. Let's see:
- First Name: This is the name your family and friends call you every day, like Akinyi, Juma, or Wambui.
- Middle Name / Second Name: This can be a family name, a Christian name, or a name that tells a story about you!
- Last Name / Surname: This is your family name, which you share with your father, mother, brothers, and sisters, like Ochieng or Kamau.
Always say your name proudly! For example, "My full name is Wanjiru Grace Kimani."
I am a Boy / I am a Girl
Another important part of who you are is your gender. You are either a boy or a girl. Both boys and girls are strong, clever, and important!
Image Suggestion: A vibrant, cheerful illustration of a young Kenyan boy wearing shorts and a t-shirt, standing next to a young Kenyan girl wearing a dress. They are both smiling and waving. The background is a sunny Kenyan landscape with acacia trees. Style: Colourful cartoon.
My Wonderful Body
Your body is amazing! It helps you to play, learn, and explore the world. Let's name some parts of our body and what they do:
- Head: It holds your amazing brain for thinking!
- Eyes: To see the beautiful colours of our Kenyan flag.
- Nose: To smell delicious chapati or the rain on the soil.
- Mouth: To talk, sing, and eat tasty ugali!
- Hands: To write, draw, wave to friends, and help at home.
- Legs: To run in the field, walk to school, and dance to music.
Let's draw a person!

How Old Am I?
Your age is how many years you have been in this world. Every year on your birthday, you get one year older! We can use simple maths to find out our age.
**Formula to Calculate Your Age:**
Current Year - The Year You Were Born = Your Age
**Example:**
If the current year is 2024 and you were born in the year 2017:
2024
- 2017
-------
7
You are 7 years old!
My Amazing Talents!
A talent is something you are very good at and enjoy doing. Everyone has a talent! Maybe you are a great runner like our famous athletes, Eliud Kipchoge and Faith Kipyegon. Or maybe you have another wonderful gift!
What is your talent?
- Singing songs
- Drawing pictures
- Telling stories
- Running very fast
- Making people laugh
- Taking care of animals
Example Story: Little Juma loved to kick a ball made of old plastic bags. He would play every day after school. He didn't know it was a talent until his teacher saw him. She said, "Juma, you are a fantastic footballer!" Juma felt so proud. He found his talent!
My Big Feelings (Emotions)
We all have feelings, and that's okay! Feelings are also a part of who you are. They can change like the weather. Sometimes it's sunny (happy), and sometimes it's rainy (sad).
- Happy: When you feel smiley and joyful, like when you get a new toy.
- Sad: When you feel like crying, maybe because you miss a friend.
- Angry: When you feel hot and upset, like when someone takes your pencil without asking.
- Surprised: When something unexpected happens, like a surprise visitor!
**Our Feelings Chart**
:-) - Happy
:-( - Sad
:-o - Surprised
>:-( - Angry
Image Suggestion: A colourful chart titled "My Feelings". It shows the face of a Kenyan child expressing four different emotions: happiness (big smile), sadness (with a tear), anger (frowning), and surprise (wide eyes). Each face has a label below it.
Things I Like and Dislike
It's perfectly fine to like some things and dislike others. This is what makes you, YOU! What are your favourite things?
- Favourite Food: Is it githeri, mukimo, pilau, or maybe mandazi?
- Favourite Colour: Is it the green of the trees, the blue of the sky, or the red of the soil?
- Favourite Game: Do you like playing kati, football, or skipping rope?
It is also okay not to like something. Maybe you don't like noisy places or a certain type of food. Knowing what you like and dislike is a part of knowing yourself.
You are One of a Kind!
Wow! We have learned so much about you. Your name, your body, your age, your feelings, and your favourite things all come together to make one amazing person: YOU!
Never forget that you are special and unique, just like a beautiful pattern in a kanga. Be proud of who you are! Asante sana for learning with me today!
