Habari! Let's Talk About Happy Faces!
Hello, wonderful students! Have you ever seen your mum, auntie, or big sister put something that looks like food on her face? Maybe something green like an avocado? It might look a little funny, but they are doing something very special called a facial. Today, we are going to become skin experts and learn all about it!
Image Suggestion: A brightly lit, cheerful classroom in Kenya. A smiling female teacher of African descent is standing in front of a chalkboard. On the board is a simple drawing of a smiling sun and the words "Skin Care: Facials!". A diverse group of young Grade III students are sitting at their desks, looking up at her with curious and happy expressions.
What is a Facial, Anyway?
Think of a facial as a super-special treat for the skin on your face. Just like we wash our bodies with soap and water to stay clean, a facial is a way to give our face an extra deep clean and make it feel soft, happy, and healthy. It's like giving your face a big, warm hug and a yummy, healthy meal all at once!
Our faces work hard all day, facing the sun, the wind, and the vumbi (that's Swahili for dust!). A facial helps to wash all that away and keep our skin glowing.

Why Should We Care About Facials?
Taking care of our face skin is very important! A simple and safe facial (done with a grown-up, of course!) can:
- Clean deeply: It helps remove dirt that is hiding in tiny places on your skin.
- Make skin soft: It helps your skin feel as soft as a fluffy cloud.
- Give a healthy glow: It makes your skin look bright and shiny, just like the beautiful Kenyan sun!
- Be relaxing: It's a calm and fun activity to do.
Let's Make Our Own 'Parachichi' Power Mask!
The most fun part of a facial is the mask! We can make a simple and safe one at home using things from the kitchen. We are going to make a mask using parachichi (avocado) and asali (honey). Always ask a grown-up to help you!
Here is our secret recipe formula:
--- MASK RECIPE ---
Ingredient 1: Mashed Avocado (Parachichi)
Ingredient 2: Honey (Asali)
The Magic Mix:
For every 2 big spoons of Avocado, we add 1 small spoon of Honey.
Formula: 2 (Avocado) + 1 (Honey) = Happy Skin!
Steps:
- Ask a grown-up to help you get a soft, ripe avocado.
- Mash two big spoonfuls of it in a clean bowl until it's like a soft paste.
- Add one small spoonful of honey.
- Mix, mix, mix it all together!

The Super Steps to a Happy Face!
Once your mask is ready, here's what you and your grown-up can do:
- Step 1: Clean Up! Gently wash your face with warm water and a little bit of mild soap. Pat it dry with a clean towel.
- Step 2: Mask On! Using clean fingers, gently spread your Parachichi Power Mask on your face. Make sure to stay away from your eyes and mouth! You might look like a little green monster, and that's okay!
- Step 3: Relax! Let the mask sit for about 5 minutes. You can close your eyes and pretend you are relaxing on a beach in Mombasa.
- Step 4: Rinse Off! Gently wash the mask off with warm water.
- Step 5: Moisturise! Ask your grown-up for a little bit of gentle lotion (like Arimis or any simple moisturiser) to put on your face to keep it soft.
Akinyi's Story:
Akinyi loved to play outside in the shamba (farm) with her friends. One afternoon, she came inside, and her face felt dry from the sun and dust. Her shosho (grandmother) smiled and said, "Let's give your face a treat from the garden!" They mashed a small, soft parachichi and added a drop of asali from their own beehive. Akinyi giggled as her shosho helped her put the cool, green mask on her face. After rinsing it off, her skin felt so soft and happy! Shosho told her, "The land gives us food for our tummies and also for our skin."
Safety First, Our Little Skin Experts!
Remember these very important rules:
- ALWAYS ask a grown-up (like a parent, guardian, or teacher) for help before you try anything.
- Use only clean bowls, spoons, and hands.
- Be very gentle with the skin on your face. No scrubbing hard!
- Keep the mask away from your eyes, nostrils, and mouth. We don't want to eat our mask, even if it smells yummy!
- If your skin feels itchy or funny, wash the mask off right away.
Let's Recap!
Wow, you've learned so much! A facial is a wonderful way to clean and care for your face, making it soft and healthy. You even have a secret recipe for a Kenyan Parachichi Power Mask!
