NASA is launching a series of missions, the Artemis missions, to return humans to the surface of the Moon. The Artemis missions will demonstrate NASA’s commitment and capability to extend human existence deeper into the solar system. Artemis I is the first in a series of increasingly complex missions that will enable human exploration to the Moon and Mars. Artemis I is an uncrewed flight test of the systems needed for human exploration of deep space. These systems are the Orion spacecraft, the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the ground systems at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
