We are a small team of four people who have been building tools for Shopify merchants for four years. We’ve been growing steadily and now want to hire a special person.
We really need to upgrade our SEO/content game. We have a blog that we’ve been running for a couple of years now and it’s performing quite well relative to the amount of effort and time we gave it. But we barely scratched the surface of what’s possible. I believe with the right person we can increase the traffic to our blog 10-30 times within a couple of years. This is where you can contribute!
We are looking for someone who already has proven experience researching and writing technical articles, growing traffic, doing keyword research, and other SEO related activities.
But here is what we learned over the last year. It’s impossible to write good content if you do not understand what the customers go through when using apps like ours. That’s why this position is intentionally split into 2 roles:
SEO/marketing/content creation
Technical customer support
Our first CS rep already works that way. That’s why we could produce high quality articles so far.
As a CS rep, you will communicate with customers on a daily basis via email and chat. You will help them resolve technical problems, e.g. fixing broken styling, adding some small custom elements, adding small JS scripts, etc.
That way you will have plenty of ideas on what to write next for the blog.
We take customer support very seriously, as evidenced by our app’s excellent 5-star rating.
Some of the most important duties:
SEO-related activites, such keyword research, content research and writing, etc
Communicating with customers via live chat or email and resolving any problems they have
Continuously learning about the features of our app and the broader Shopify ecosystem to better assist customers
Summarizing product feedback from merchants and suggesting new ideas for product improvements
Performing manual app tests for new feature releases
Handling some other tasks (e.g., researching tools, writing blog posts, creating mockups). These tasks will be assigned based on your natural abilities and interests.
Must have:
Knowledge of basic HTML/CSS/JS and a willingness to learn more if needed
Deep knowledge of SEO
Superb written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail
Enjoying talking to people and solving their problems
Ability to handle “hard” customers (we have very few of those though )
Proficiency in discussing technical concepts at a high level
Ability and willingness to write technical documentation/articles
Willingness to perform other tasks (we are a small startup and we all wear multiple hats)
Willingness to have at least a 4-hour overlap with GMT+7, between 9am–6pm
Additional things that will make you stand out:
Your own e-commerce or tech oriented blog
Basic video production skills to produce technical screencasts
UI/UX design skills
Reddit marketing experience
Any other marketing experience

Experience working with Shopify, especially in theme development/customization
Experience working with B2B SaaS
Additional languages (especially French, Spanish, and Italian)
Any other skills useful in a startup (e.g., marketing, video editing, design etc.)
