🧾 Job Description
The Payroll Tax Associate is responsible for federal and state payroll tax compliance within the PEO (Professional Employer Organization) industry. This role involves payroll tax research, tax processing, reconciliations, client support, and resolution of tax notices, ensuring full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
✅ Key Responsibilities
• Research legal issues, concerns, solutions, and tax filing positions in compliance with local, state, federal, and international tax laws.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams on new projects or business initiatives to ensure proper payroll tax liability coverage.
• Assist in auditing all corporate tax payments.
• Process payroll tax payments and tax returns, including reconciliations.
• Verify data accuracy to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
• Analyze and resolve tax notices and discrepancies by processing corrections in a timely and effective manner.
• Provide a high level of customer service and support to clients by assisting with payroll tax issues, questions, and requests.
• Maintain professional and technical payroll tax knowledge through training, professional publications, internal resources, and ongoing research of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
• Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual federal, state, and local payroll tax returns as assigned.
• Process tax filings and payments via e-file, batch agent files, magnetic media, and EFT (debit and credit).
• Track and resolve tax notices while maintaining timely status updates in the case management system.
• Prioritize and resolve assigned tasks within the case management system.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• 🧠 Skills & Requirements
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Payroll, Tax, or a related field.
• PEO or related industry experience preferred.
• High level of English proficiency (B2+ or C1), both written and conversational.
