Are you passionate about reducing climate impacts in transport, freight, and logistics? Smart Freight Centre is looking for an all-round Technical Manager – SFC East Africa to drive the implementation of our Green Freight Support Program and help shape our program.

✏️ About the position

Technical Manager – SFC East Africa: Smart Freight Centre is seeking a dynamic, driven Program Manager to lead and grow its operations in East Africa. This includes leading the implementation of the Green Freight Support Program – Eastern Africa, a regional initiative aimed at reducing emissions from freight transport through better emissions performance data, uptake of electric trucks and enabling industry-wide action.

You’ll be at the forefront of the transition in the region by implementing multiple projects. You will work with global and local companies to drive the adoption of zero emission logistics through your analytical skills and briefs. You will help build the business case for the adoption of electric vehicles, design charging infrastructure strategy, support in the transparency of logistics emissions and identify new opportunity to accelerate the transition to zero emission.

⭐ Here’s an idea of what tasks you might be working on:
• Manage and implement technical projects from concept to implementation, particularly around truck electrification. Projects cover activities such as the optimization of charging and energy infrastructure, structuring the business caseand analysing the economics for scaling up electric vehicles, embedded eco-driving practices or considering the role of procurement practices.
• Analyse and provide understanding of national/regional energy and logistics markets,
• Work with shippers, carriers,logistics service providers, and public sector bodies to complete the technical assessments.
• Train companies in sustainable logistics and how best to embedin their strategies.
• Provide technical briefs on the opportunities for logistics decarbonization in the region
• Write industry reports and selected whitepapers on zero emission
• Identify new market opportunities within the region, particularly to embed logistics emissions accounting and scale truck electrification.
• Present and represent SFC East Africa at events, panels, and external meetings.
• Collaborate with SFC’s global team to ensure consistency, knowledge-sharing, and aligned impact.

⭐ Skills and Capabilities:
• 5+ years of experience in logistics and sustainability.
• Deep understanding of transport and logistics in East Africa
• Familiarity with green freight initiatives, emissions baselining, or road freight electrification technologies.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to analyse energy, finance,logistics markets and present their opportunity to decarbonize.
• Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills in multi-sector environments.
• Ability to lead and execute complex projects with minimal oversight.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to simplify technical concepts for broader audiences.
• Proficiency in English;Swahili and French area plus.
• A collaborative mindset combined with the ability to work independently.
